HUNTED : { Wedding Hairstyles – Bridal Bun }

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

I got asked several times when planning my wedding if I was intending to do my own hair. The answer, without missing a heartbeat, was “no, no, absolutely no way, never.”

I am a hair dunce. I can just about manage two styles : down / ponytail. What I didn’t need on the morning of the wedding was my usual grumble as I tackle my mane and realise I don’t know what to do with it. I wanted a professional to just get on with making me look good.

Unless you are a hair expert, or really on a shoestring, don’t do your own hair for your wedding. And if you can get someone to come to your house on the day and do it – even better. That leaves you free to drink bucks fizz and chat with your ‘maids.

Definitely DO have a hair trial before the day, including any headpiece / veil you’re thinking of wearing. If you’re seeking ideas, one of the classic hair choices is the bun. Sophisticated, elegant, versatile and with the result of showing off more of your dress, it’s an ideal bridal hairstyle.

If you want some inspiration, I’ve hunted you some below.

The Classic Bridal Bun

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Bride Hairstyles Bun Elegant Chic

When you think of a bridal bun, you probably go straight to something like this visually. Hair pulled smoothly back off the face, big, elegant bun section. And what’s wrong with this for a wedding? Absolutely nothing. It’s classic, chic, sophisticated and draws attention to the bride’s beautiful face. [ image : Rock My Wedding. ]

Bridal Hair Kim Kardashian Inspired

Or perhaps mentally you reach immediately for something a little more Kim Kardashian, with not a single hair out of place. I’m feel somewhat apologetic for featuring her but you can’t fault it as a classic bun hairstyle. [ image : here ]

Bride Hair Ideas Smart Bun Flowers Elegant

Buns needn’t be high and tight to retain a degree of smartness. This broad chignon version sits low, whilst retaining a classic look. It also provides the perfect opportunity to include a flower clip or other hairpiece [ image : here ].

Equally, a bun can sit on the side, allowing any kind of hair clip to emerge from the side. [ image : here. ]

The Plaited Bridal Bun

Bridal Inspiration Hair Buns Wedding

Buns don’t necessitate ballerina style neatness. They can be much more freeform and bohemian. In this version above the hair has been braided with gold and white material, leading to a low, loose bun at the back. It’s a complex style, so certainly one to show to your hairdresser and trial. Another example of the messy braided bun is this version here, albeit not on a bride. This is a youthful, playful style that would suit less structured wedding dresses. [ image : here .]

The Retro Bridal Bun

The very versatile bun can also be adapted for brides who have more of a retro / 1940s pin-up style to them. This site here even gives you a tutorial on how to perfect the look.

The Intricate Bridal Bun

And finally, if you have a talented hairdresser, and a bit more time in the morning, there are amazingly complex things you can do with the humble bun. Like this. [ image : here ]

And so, you can see that the bun is an enormously versatile choice that can be constructed in 2 minutes, or 2 hours of complex inter-twining. The choice is yours.

Are there any of these that you love?

Or do you prefer loose hair for brides?

Or do you have a bun image you’d like to include here?
